It was a Monday morning and I was part of the family routine. Virginie was getting ready to go to work, Eve had to be brought to summer camp and Rosinante and I were also getting ready.
I would come back in September on my way home from Newfoundland so we just said “good bye until then” after Jonathan had replenished my water tank.
Jonathan had pointed me to a beautiful cycling path directly by the water to avoid the zigzagging of the big city.
On my way through the mostly beautiful Montreal island with its parks and different neighborhoods I even saw a groundhog
It was good to be on the road again. Too much family life makes me miss my home and my family more.
I crossed the bridge and was cycling the north shore of the St. Lawrence Stream. I came to pretty little towns like Louiseville with an “old” church from 1905.
Here, the river widens into the lake Lac Saint-Pierre. It is so wide you can barely see the opposite shore.
Also there were now container ships and other large vessels on the water.
The cycling was totally flat and pretty eventless today.
Everything feels very European here. I even saw a tiny Fiat 500 which you would never see in the other provinces.
Carolin was sending me regular updates from the renovation project which she was doing in our house while I was gone.
I found it half scary and half exciting because she was taking all the decisions but overall, I was very happy.
Around 5pm, I had an early dinner on the road and then approached the town Trois Riverières.
I went to a place directly by the river that Komoot had identified has a camping site, however it only hosted guests in micro huts.
The gentleman administering the site was on his way home and was a bit unfriendly at first.
I was throwing in all the little French I had to offer and finally, we got along quite well.
He spoke “Quebecois” which is to school French what the Bavarian dialect is to high German. I barely understood his answers. But with a little patience, a lot of repeating and gesturing it worked fine.
I got a key to a shower which was very nice. After setting up my tent and doing my evening ritual, I had a “Feierabend-Beer” overlooking the lake.
As it was quite windy, there were no mosquitoes. Around half past eight it got dark and I went to bed.
