I woke up and had a long call with my wife Carolin. It was good to feel the connection and to hear what’s ongoing at home. She showed me a bit of the renovation project she was working on in our home. Beate, a good friend of ours, celebrated her 60th birthday that day and it was a pitty that I couldn’t be there.
And she told that Elon Musk had endorsed Trump which was just another reason to never buy a Tesla.
I had a pretty late start and was in the saddle just before 11:00. But only to have a second breakfast at Tom Hortons soon thereafter.
I used the break to reach out to a couple of Warmshowers hosts. So far, I have received nothing but declines to my hosting requests.
I made a note to myself that I needed to get back to my natural rhythm: rise early, cycle, go to bed early.
On the other hand, I was three days ahead of schedule at the moment. So no problem with taking it a bit slower.
I cycled South and followed the beautiful Lake Témiscauata on a converted rail track which was gravel but perfectly flat and well maintained. There were even rest places and toilets along the way. What a luxury.
I met dozens of mostly elderly cyclists on e-bikes who were vacationing here or just enjoying themselves.
The lake led into the Madawaska River which continued all the way till Edmunston.
On the way, I crossed the border to New Brunswick. Yeah! Only three provinces left to go!

I had done the first 65km in one go and had a late and very yummy lunch in Edmunston.

The last 55km were pretty flat. I was following the Saint John River which is the border to the USA in this part of the world.
The last 4km to the campsite were a massive push. But it was rewarded with a friendly welcome, a hearty meal and seasonal guests who donated a beer to the sweaty cyclist from Germany.
The host lady showed me to my place with a golf cart. I found a friendly camper who was willing to charge my battery and medication cooler for the night.
The seasonal guests formed a very lively community here and they were playing beer pong together. Also, the entire place was illuminated like Disney Land – pretty special. The loud music made it hard to sleep but I enjoyed the laughter and the vibe. .

All in all, a very good day!
